Customer Testimonials

I'm glad to have learnt to drive with ShireDrive and can't recommend them enough. Their efficient and friendly team make the process both straightforward and enjoyable, are easy to communicate with, and are supportive from start to finish.

Today i passed my driving test at St Albans.

I learnt to drive with Shire Drive and i would like to say thank you to my instructor Greame who was incredibly helpful through out the process. I Don’t think I would’ve done it without his support.

From Our Website

Shire Drive Ltd. was founded in 1994 as SHIRE School of Motoring Ltd, subsequently changing our name to Shire Drive Ltd. in 2011. The company changed ownership in April 2012, having been established and owned by Alan and Cornelia Dismore in 1994. The Company is now owned by Graeme and Lian Wilson. Shire are still a family owned and run business offering training to car drivers at all levels from complete beginners through to advanced drivers. Shire offer training for drivers of both manual and automatic modern cars and have both male and female instructors.

We do not ask for a large up front payment before you start your training. At ShireDrive we are aware of the financial commitments involved with starting training for a new career and fitting that in with job and family commitments. Pay as you train enables you to match your training to your finances. Training costs can be found on the Lesson Prices page. A career in driving instruction is both challenging and rewarding. You will need to get on well with all sorts of people, and be a good encourager as well as a good teacher.

Manual and automatic driving lessons with one of Hertfordshire's premier driving schools, covering Watford and the surrounding areas. Your driving instructor will pick you up in Watford from home, work or school for your Watford driving lesson. All our driving lessons will be on a one-to-one basis and our driving lesson prices are based on a full hour driving tuition - some schools quote cheaper prices, but their lesson might only last 50 minutes! Learning to drive is fun and hard work at the same time.

The Driving Test lasts about 40 minutes and includes driving out of town on fast roads, such as dual carriageways, up to 70 mph. You will be asked to do 1 out of 3 possible reversing manoeuvres (turn in the road, reverse around the corner and reverse park {reverse park could be either parallel parking or bay parking}). One third of tests include an emergency stop. The examiner will ask you to drive independently for about 10 minutes, following a simple map and/or road signs. There will also be two questions about the routine safety checks you should do on your car, to ensure it is safe to drive.

To qualify: - you have never driven a 4 wheel motor vehicle before, in any country, with or without an instructor, parent or other supervisor. The free first hour will consist of the controls lesson, where you will learn the location, function, mode of operation of the main hand and foot controls and the commands the instructor will use when he or she wants you to use that control. You will also be taught to get into and out of the vehicle safely and to set up the seat and mirrors and use appropriate safety equipment.

A Pass Plus course could be just what you need, to increase your confidence and make you a safer driver. Pass Plus gives you a further 6 hours training, usually with your normal ShireDrive instructor, including; more diverse town and city driving, all weather driving, country roads, driving at night, and driving on dual carriageways and motorways.
